Deliverables:
Bottle Labels, Bottle Potion Stand, and Carrying Messenger Bag
Materials:
Paper, Fabric, Plywood, Iron-on Transfer Paper
Concept: A Poised Correspondence
Drawing inspiration from a 17th-century poison maker, Artemisia’s conceptual product line weaves an intricate narrative through typography-driven absinthe bottle labels and corresponding vintage luggage sets. Each product tells a portion of the legendary tale of Giulia Tofana, an Italian woman who covertly sold slow-acting arsenic poisons to desperate women trying to escape abusive marriages in the 1600s. The bottles explore the personas of the calculating Poison Maker who stealthily provides deadly potions, the desperate Poison Buyer driven to take drastic measures to gain freedom, and the abusive Poison Drinker whose actions have led them to an ominous fate. Through historical storytelling and antique aesthetic details, Artemisia reflects on the morality behind using poisoning to escape oppression in 17th-century Italy.
